Class Details and Dress Codes


We are very excited to offer you one easy and optional way to purchase your dancer’s attire!  BGDC now has our very own studio page on Curtain Call for Class, a dancewear website!

To access the page and purchase your child’s dancewear, follow these steps:

  1. Go to curtaincallforclass.com
  2. For Studio Name, type in Breaking Ground Dance Center (this is case sensitive)
  3. For Studio passphrase, type in breakingground#1 (this is case sensitive)
  4. Once you are logged in, you may scroll the drop down menu to select your child’s class! Here you will find many clothing options to choose from and the required footwear!

In addition, BGDC will be having an in-studio shoe fitting. Please bring your dance during one of the following dates and times:

August 24th 11 am-3 pm
August 25th 11 am-3 pm
August 29th 4-8:30 pm
August 31st 4-8:30 pm

Boppin’ Babies

A high energy adult-and-child class that incorporates music and movement. Each week you and your child will move, dance, and groove to the beat all with props and instruments in our fun and safe environment. Come make lasting memories with us!

Attire: Whatever you and your child can move in! No outside shoes are allowed in the classroom.

Spin & Sparkle

For girls and boys ages 2-5 this class combines movement, music, activities and games while introducing aspects of ballet, jazz, and tap. This class is a wonderful introduction to all styles of dance!

Attire: Girls wear any color leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes and black babydoll tap shoes with tap ties. Boys wear black shorts or athletic pants, t-shirt, black ballet shoes and black jazz tap shoes.

Ballet/Tap

For boys and girls ages 3-6 this combination class incorporates the fundamentals of ballet and tap. Students will learn the basics, as well as, basic classroom skills and music/timing all while gaining self-confidence and a love for dance.

Attire: Girls wear any color leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes and black babydoll tap shoes with tap ties. Boys wear black shorts or athletic pants, t-shirt, black ballet shoes and black jazz tap shoes.

Ballet

For boys and girls ages 7 & up, ballet education begins with mastering the placement of the body, legs and arms. Beginner students work towards developing technique and coordination. As students advance, classes become increasingly complex in terms of the development of strength, stability and grace.

Attire: Girls-black leotard, pink tights and pink leather ballet shoes are required. Also, hair must be worn in a neat bun. Boys-black pants, white t-shirt and black ballet shoes.

Pointe

For students who have completed Pre-Pointe or who have been evaluated by an instructor, the strongest ballet students may advance to the next level of training – Pointe. Students must be individually assessed to be considered for pointe work. All pointe students are required to take at least one ballet class per week in conjunction with pointe.

Attire: Pink tights and black leotard are required for the class.  Pointe shoes must be approved by the instructor first before ribbons and elastics are sewn on. Hair must be worn in a neat bun.

Tap

For boys and girls, this dance form involves rhythmic sounds that are created by the feet to teach the student rhythm, timing and balance. It is a percussive dance where the dancer is able to create the music with their feet.

Attire: Any color leotard or form fitting shirt and leggings or shorts. Our 3-6 year old students must wear black babydoll tap shoes with tap ties and 7-18 year old students wear black jazz tap shoes with laces. Hair must be in a ponytail.

Hip Hop

For boys and girls ages 5 and older, this dance form focuses on the current “street style” of dance. The dancer will learn high energy routines demonstrating style and rhythm.

Attire: Any color form fitting shirt and shorts/leggings may be worn. Students must wear black dance sneakers and keep their hair in a ponytail.

Jazz

For boys and girls ages 5 & up, jazz focuses on a combination of musical theater, lyrical and modern. Throughout all levels of jazz, students focus on proper body alignment and conditional as well as isolations, quick combinations and complicated rhythms.

Attire: Any color leotard or form fitting shirt and leggings or shorts. Also, students must wear caramel split sole gore jazz boots. We ask that students keep their hair in a pony tail or bun.

Lyrical & Contemporary/Lyrical

For boys and girls ages 7 & up, lyrical is an expressive yet technically challenging form of dance that combines ballet, jazz and modern dance styles. It involves an in-depth emotional performance by the dancer. Usually inspired by slow music, this expressive dance form is a growing trend in dance today.

Attire: Any color leotard or form fitting shirt and leggings or shorts may be worn. Students must wear caramel, split sole, jazz gore boots and keep their hair in a ponytail or bun.

Musical Theater Jazz

For boys and girls ages 7 & up this is a jazz class that is Broadway and theater oriented incorporating the jazz styles used in musical theater productions.

Attire: Any color leotard or form fitting shirt and leggings or shorts must be worn. Also, students must wear caramel spilt sole gore jazz boots. We ask that students keep their hair in a pony tail or bun.

Jumps and Turns

This class is offered to boys and girls ages 10 & up. Focus is on personal development and growth in flexibility, leaps and turns. This class is for the dancer looking to go further with their technique and training. Because of the dedicated nature to growth in technique, this class does not have a recital dance so each student can use the entire class for growth purposes for the entire year.

Attire: Any color leotard or form fitting shirt and leggings or shorts may be worn. Also, students must wear caramel spilt sole gore jazz boots. Hair in a ponytail or bun.

Acro

For boys and girls ages 7 and older, students learn the fundamentals of acrobatics and tumbling.

Attire: For the boys, comfortable clothing and bare feet. For the girls, any color leotard or form fitting shirt, shorts/leggings and bare feet.
